@foo any web app will work with Webian (except there a few that don't due to a bug, but we're working on that).

As for 0.2, we hit some limitations of the Mozilla platform which has delayed the release but things are still very much moving forward behind the scenes. Stay tuned for some news about what happens next...

@JMulvaney: I've seen EyeOS and I work for a company who has previously created a similar product, in my opinion there isn't much of a future for a hosted, web-based desktop environment. The web *is* the platform and the client side (browser) is a much better place to manage apps from.

Have you seen www.eyeos.org ?

One of the good things about this "WebOS" is that you can launch webapps in their own window on top of the web-desktop, rather than in a tab, similar to conventional local apps.

I think you should leave it as it is.

Don't give into all features people think they need, or the software is going to become harder to use with no benefit.

Awesome job.

I suggest Pirate Pad to be integrated into Webian, so people can have access to a simple shared text editor.

Some of the good things about the Pirate Pad:

We don't log anything (e.g. your ip, referer).
Pads without #public are not indexable by search engines.
#Public pads are, well, public.

The Pirate Pad is an interesting alternative to Microsoft Word, because it offers an easy way to save documents in the cloud and see the revisions.

The Pirate Pad was created by the Pirate Party from Sweden, and is based on Google's Etherpad Open Source Project.

BTW -- I think you got the priorities for 0.2 absolutely right; I just hope it will be released soon!

Regarding 0.3 and beyond:

Try to make it extensible, so people will come up with launchers, apps and gadgets. But *don't* include them by default.

Webian is beautiful "as is", so I'd rather have all the bugs squashed in a simple and clean platform than having a lot of new features cluttering my desktop.

Hi!

I downloaded 0.1 and really liked what I saw. The layout is clean and beautiful; I hope you keep it that way. It looks like a distraction-free OS, which is great (in comparison with most operating systems).

I'll definitely download and test 0.2, I hope it won't take too long! :)
